One of the first things B and I did after we got engaged was determine our bridal party. I was so excited about all the ways I could ask them to make it special and surprising.
When I asked B how he was asking his friends, he shrugged and replied, "I don't know. I'm just going to ask 'em next time we hang out." Well, clearly that wasn't going to work for me so I started developing my game plan.
I wanted to ask my MOH's first because it would be another special way to show them how important it was to me. So this is how I did it.
First up, Sandra, B's younger sister!
I took her out to dinner and gave her a little gift bag. Inside was all the material she would need: a full page of instructions, a card, and a box of puzzle pieces. She had to put the whole puzzle together without some key pieces, which I gave her only after she read a card.
She was thrilled and so was I. My plan worked perfectly. Now on to Stacy, B's older sister.
Stacy is clever, so I knew I had to pull a fast one on her. My mother was coming into town, and I decided to plan my first dress-shopping event. I asked Sandra, Stacy and B's mom to come as well.
Once in the fitting room, I explained everything to the consultant, who was a key player in my scheme! When I tried on the third dress, she helped me tie on my handmade "tag" and tucked it into the dress. Then I walked out to show it off and stood close to Stacy. I complained that something was sticking into my back and really hurting me. Stacy immediately fell for the bait!
She jumped up, fished the tag from the dress and said, "There ya go sweetie" before turning around. I had to think fast because clearly my plan was getting ready to backfire!
I said, "Is it the price tag? Could you tell me how much it is?" before she took her first step away. She turned around and flipped the tag over...voila!
That was such a special moment! Everyone was so excited.
Stay tuned for a post on how I asked the rest of my bridal party!
