I am definitely not your typical DIY bride, but I do like to get a little crafty when I can.
We had beautiful wedding invitations that went a bit over budget, so I decided to save money by making the rehearsal dinner invitations myself!
Since there were only 35 invites to send, it was completely manageable and fun.
First step, supplies:
Staying with a similar color palette, for obvious reasons, I used a natural white and navy combination.
I'm completely obsessed with Avery labels. I would use them for everything if I could because the steps are so simple. Go to their website, download a template, type and print! Love it!
Using a larger shipping label for the guests' addresses made more of a statement, which is definitely what I wanted. I used the smaller address label for our return address, which I placed on the back flap of the envelope.
The navy envelope liner was super easy to put in. B prepped them by slipping each liner into its envelope. I applied a few strips of double-stick adhesive to the top flap, and the envelopes were lined in no time.
For the actual invitation, I printed navy blue ink on the natural white card and then used adhesive to stick it on the navy card. This created a very good weight invitation and a beautiful navy border.
One big piece of advise: always check with your post office before stamping all your invites OR ordering custom stamps. I ordered 44-cent stamps along with our $1.56 invitation ones for our RSVP postcards, but they ended up being too large so I figured I would just use them for the rehearsal dinner invites.
(Who knew a square envelope cost more? Not me, apparently.)
Ultimately, I was very happy at the end of the project. People didn't believe I had made them myself. Although it was time-consuming, the savings were unbelievable, so B was a big fan of that. ;)
Did you attempt DIY invites of any kind? How did it go? Share your stories with us and all of your fellow Nina girls!
Wishing you glamorous planning!
