A lot of people just don't get social media.
"Why would anybody care what I'm having for breakfast?"
"Why would I want to see a distant acquaintance's vacation photos?
"If I tweet at her, she tweets at him, and he tweets back to me...is that a love twiangle?"
Here at Nina Shoes, while we fully appreciate, value and invest our time and resources into social media, we're certainly still learning, too.
(That being said, we do know the correct answers are 1) No one does, so don't tweet that, 2) Then stop looking, weirdo, and 3) Yes, that's exactly what it is.)
Seriously, though, our suspicions of social media's power were confirmed in spades Tuesday night at Kitty Bradshaw's Two-Year Blogiversary held at the APART showroom in Manhattan.
Because it's not about tweeting in your pajamas (though, that is convenient). It's about meeting new people - people you would have otherwise never interacted with.
I spent a good hour making this display just right!
Fellow bloggers Precise (left) and Kitty (!)
Models Arie, Patrice and Christine rocked APART dresses and Nina shoes.
Here we are all having fun. (Can you guess who I am? Hint: The guy!)
Photos by Precise and Tramp, the awesome duo from Lady And A Tramp.
Like Mikelah Rose, who believes the Caribbean/Urban demographic is underrepresented and plans to dominate it. One look at her blog Style and Vibes, and you can tell she means it.
Or Candace Karu, who came all the way from Maine and still had plenty of energy to spare! Her blog Subject To Change is as personal as it enjoyable, funny as it honest.
Or Sherilyn Ferdinand, who easily has the coolest brand name/tagline combo I've seen in a while. RamenBerry - Our Key To Success: Ramen Noodles and a Blackberry. Love it.
Or Mikki Collier, whose blog name 'Obsessionista' must make every woman curse and say, "Why didn't I think of that?" Thing is, Mikki's got the crazy awesome content to back it up.
Then Kerry Yanique blogs about Champagne Dreams, while Patrice Williams blogs about Living Fly on a Dime.
There's Fit For Fashion and The Slim Diva. But there's also ShoesNBooze and FRSHpulp (yummy!).
There's KMP, Tineey and Busy Bee.
Of course, on this night though, there was no one without Kitty.
Thanks to Kitty for bringing so many wonderful people together and for allowing Nina Shoes to be a part of it. And thanks to everyone who swung by to say, 'Hi,' and chat shoes. I heard some really positive things about our new line (something we're all very excited about and proud of here), so that was really appreciated as well.
Most of the shoes on display were samples, so won't be available for a little bit. We will be putting them up for pre-order on our site soon, though. When they're live, I'll make sure to spread the word. And I'd love you help in spreading it even further.
Lastly, I just wanted to share something I learned. When online tweets, posts, comments and tags drive real-life offline interaction, social media suddenly makes sense. More than that, social media suddenly seems immensely powerful.
So thank you to my new friends. I look forward to collaborating in the future.
Just don't tell me what you're eating because, frankly, I don't care. :)
